ABOUT VOLTA BIBLE COLLEGE
Volta Bible College (VBC) was established in January 2010 at the Mission House of Ho Central Church of Christ under the name Volta School of Evangelism. VBC serves as a vital extension of the World Bible Institute, and its primary mission is to equip men and women for effective ministry roles within the church and society at large.
Since its inception, the College has become a hub for sound biblical training, spiritual development, and leadership formation for Christians in Ghana and beyond.
VBC is a well-established preacher training institution located in Ho, in the Volta Region of Ghana, specifically in the community of Kpogadzi-Ho.
The College operates from a beautiful campus facility that provides an enabling environment for both learning and spiritual growth. The campus includes modern classrooms, well-furnished dormitories, administrative offices, and one of the largest religious libraries in West Africa. This vast collection of theological resources serves as an invaluable tool for research, study, and sermon preparation, making VBC an outstanding center for preacher training in the region.
In line with its mission, VBC is not only committed to training full-time preachers but also reaches out to those already serving in ministry who may not have had access to formal Bible education. Through special programs, workshops, and seminars, many preachers, evangelists, and church leaders have been empowered with the knowledge and tools needed for more effective service. The impact of this effort is remarkable—literally thousands of souls have been led to Christ through the combined efforts of the faculty, students, and alumni of the College.
To ensure sustainability and self-support, Volta Bible College operates a 52-acre farm project alongside a highly productive poultry farm. These agricultural initiatives not only provide partial financial support for the College but also serve as a practical training ground in stewardship and resource management for students.
The leadership of the College is in capable hands, with Minister Godwin Senanu serving as the Principal and Brother Stephen Dorwu functioning as the Administrator/Registrar. Under their guidance, the institution continues to grow in influence, producing dedicated preachers, evangelists, and church leaders who are actively shaping the Christian landscape in Ghana and across Africa.
Volta Bible College remains committed to the vision of its founding: to train faithful gospel preachers and church leaders who will carry the message of Christ to the nations. It stands as a beacon of biblical truth, spiritual empowerment, and ministerial excellence in the Volta Region and beyond.
History of VBC
The late, Elder Sammy Dzamesi was the first Principal with other instructors such as: Min. Sem Akumiah, Min. Godson Gakpetor, Min. Sedem Amedume, Min. Godwin Senanu and Min. Paul Adom.
Prio to 2010, the College received a Missionary from the United States of America (USA) called Evangelist Dr. David Hamrick who suggested to the authorities to introduce a Bachelor of Arts in Theology in addition to Diploma/Certificate in Biblical Studies which the Volta School of Evangelism was offering. The school authorities agreed to his proposal and the school was upgraded to a Bachelor awarding status all headed by the principal, the late Elder Sammy Dzamesi.
During that time, Bro. Benjamin Fulks and the Ghana & Togo Missions team from USA were sponsoring the work in Volta so they continued in partnership with Dr. David Hamrick to provide support to the college to run the upgraded programme too. In a passage of time, the late Elder Sammy Dzamesi, then principal of the college, decided to withdraw from the Programme to concentrate on the running of the normal two (2) years Diploma/Certificate awarding programme in the Volta School of Evangelism. Fof this reason, Min. Sem Akumia was appointed Principal in order to continue with the Bachelor/Diploma programmes with eight (8) students. Those men are currently in the Ministry of Christ performing creditably. Some of them include Ministers John Mokli, Desire Gbedivloh, Mac Thompson Gbeti, Gladstone Dordunoo, Frederick Ahama etc. for conveniences sake, the college was later named Volta Bible College.
Numbers Don’t Lie
Volta Bible College is an extension of McDonouh World Bible Institute in the USA. Initially, the two (2) institutions, Volta Bible College and Volta School of Evangelism shared the same physical apartment at the Ho Central Mission house. That situation was not convenient for both institutions therefore Bro. Benjamin Fulks, the main financier and his team from USA and the existing Management of the College were prompted to acquire a plot of land at Kpogadzi, this present location to build a college block to accommodate and train the students.
By that effort, the second batch of students, numbering seven (7) also graduated on the current premises. The third to 6th graduations came off successfully on 10th June 2017; 5th and 6th batches on 15th June 2019; 7th & 8th batches on 26th June 2021 and 9th & 10th batches on 10th June 2023.
FACILITIES
- College Block: The College over the years has been blessed with our American Brethen who have built the college block.
- Plot of Land: The college has acquired a farming of 52 acres where it could engage in farm projects to produce food for the students. It also has another two and half (2½) acres reserved for future infrastructural development. Meanwhile, the college was able to plough ten (10) acres for palm and coconut plantations.
- Tractor: The college has its own tractor which it uses to work on the farm but is currently broken down.
- Mower (Slasher): The college by the Grace of God now has a mower (slasher0 that will make the clearing of the campus easier and convenient.
- Water Facility: The College can boast of a 24-hour flow of water on campus as it has sunk its own borehole of about seven-five (75) meters deep and mechanized.
- Introduction of Postgraduate Programme: Twelve (12) graduates who started their course in 2017 have successfully completed and have since graduated. We are currently enrolling for the second batch.
- Tricycle for the College: The college also has a tricycle which helps in the transportation activities.
- Poultry Farm: The College used to have a poultry farm but have stopped due to high cost of operation. Management hopes to restart shortly.
- Residential Apartment: The college has one (1) residential facility which houses the Administrator and his family. Plans are underway for residential facilities for staff.
- Four field Discipleship and Church Multiplication Program: The said program under the auspices of Bro. Doc. Turk Director of West Africa Living Kingdom (WALK) USA, has enhanced the planting of more churches in Ghana and Togo. This fact necessitated the service of more workers, consequently a study campus of Volta Bible College was started in Prang in the Bono East Region in January 2023. Teachers from here travel to teach there with other teachers whenever school is in session. Similarly. Similar program is underway at Dambai in Oti Region to train more Timothys for the Lord.
Challenges
- Lack of Vehicle: The College faces transportation challenges because there is no bus to convey students to evangelism mission. Not only that, when it becomes necessary that students have to travel for a very important programme, the college must hire a vehicle which is not a safe situation.
- Construction of Dam: Our farming project has not been effective as we always depend on the weather for rain. The college intends to construct a dam which will enable us to do all-year round farming.
